Zinfra Upgrades AusNet’s Network Resilience from Drone Technology

Working team

The Zinfra team harnessed drone technology to help replace overhead ground wires on AusNet’s transmission network between Yallourn and Warragul.

Tasked with renewing 30 kilometres of wire, span by span across 96 transmission towers, the team turned to drones to thread the wire through each tower—allowing lineworkers to finish the job with traditional restringing techniques.

Clear communication and an unwavering commitment to safety were crucial, as all work was performed on live lines to avoid any interruption to the community’s power supply.

This marked AusNet’s first use of drones for restringing, and the project’sefficiency was evident with works completed in just eight days.
