Zinfra is shining a spotlight on safety through its innovation awards, highlighting team members who go above and beyond to keep themselves and their colleagues safe on site.
Through our ‘Safety First’ mindset, Zinfra is showcasing innovative team members who have designed, built and implemented new technology, equipment or processes that help keep our workforce safe every day.
Zinfra Transmission Lineworker, Arnel Pascual, designed and implemented a new system for installing D-Strings when a power line installation became challenging. Needing to complete the installation while a power line was still live, Arnel developed a new process that allowed the team to carry out the work safely.
Working closely with the crew, Arnel created detailed work instructions and rigging plans for the live environment install, before he secured approval from the design team to ensure the new process met the necessary safety standards.
Thanks to the new process, the team completed the works incident-free, with the power line safely reconnected and back in service on schedule.
In another example of innovative thinking focused on safety processes, Zinfra Field Testers, Garry Borg and San Sozzi, designed and implemented a dual earth isolation system to cable testing and maintenance.
The new design uses flagging blots for earthing at the top of a cable hear bracket rather than at the bottom, ensuring separate bolt of the earthing device and cable connection.
While the previous design met all safety requirements, the collaborative new design guarantees that the earth is always in place significantly reducing the risk of electrical burns or shocks from unearthed live cables.
This has resulted in a safer environment for our field teams and continuous protection during testing and maintenance.
