With the right tools, training, and support, our apprentices play a crucial role in ensuring communities have access to safe, reliable electricity and gas services for years to come.
In recent years, many of our apprentices have even embarked on career changes at various stages of their lives, showcasing the diverse opportunities within the industry.
Meet some of our outstanding Zinfra apprentices:
Gabriel Endozo Distribution
Linesman Apprentice
Queensland local, Gabriel, shows it is never too late to chase your dreams as he takes on this new role with Zinfra. His lifelong dream came from watching his father excel in the energy sector, working in distribution in the Philippines and Victoria.
Gabriel reflected, “My father has been in the energy sector his whole life, and he was the first call I made when I found out I got the apprenticeship. He told me how lucky I was to get the role and has since been giving me all the hot tips for what I need to focus on throughout the year. This feels life-changing. There is such a variety of roles in this industry but the focus for the next four years is to learn and get qualified.”
Courtney Spiden
Electrical Apprentice
Victorian local, Courtney is one of 41 electrical apprentices and trainees Zinfra have employed this year. She grew up working casually with her dad, an electrician, and thoroughly enjoyed being outside and active.
She is one of 14 female apprentices hired this year as Zinfra continues to promote gender diversity and support women in energy and an encouraging work culture.
On diversity, Courtney states “No females I knew had ever mentioned going into this type of trade, but when I spoke to people about applying for this apprenticeship, I was incredibly supported. The more women that take that leap, it definitely gives the next generation more confidence that they can do it too.”
Rachel Fogarty
Gas Services Technician
From handling animals to handling live gas environments, Western Sydney local, Rachel is a second year apprentice, training to be a gas services technician. Two years ago, she decided it was time for a change of career and was intent on finding a rewarding job that offered variety. She also enjoys learning skills that will allow her to give back to the community she grew up in.
Rache explains, “There is a real sense of accomplishment when you can do something that helps everyday Australians. People are so grateful when you get them reconnected so they can go about their day, especially when there is an outage or an emergency. I am learning the skills needed to work with the customer to keep them safe but also explain to them what it is we are doing to get them reconnected.”
Edward Larner
Electrical Apprentice
After 13 years in the healthcare sector as a paramedic, Tasmania local Edward, is starting over and is set to play a part in transforming the state’s electricity network. He has always been passionate about giving back to his community and now he begins his four-year journey as an electrical apprentice after taking the time to discover what he wanted out of his career.
“It’s quite a humble shift to go back to the beginning, especially at my age, but it was a necessary move if I wanted to get more fulfilment out of my work. I find it’s quite rewarding when you can physically see what you're creating. It’s there in front of your eyes and you can understand the ‘why’ behind what you’re doing.”, Edward said
Our apprentices come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing a unique perspective. What unites them is their shared desire to make a meaningful change at Zinfra and pursue rewarding careers in the energy sector.
At Zinfra, we are dedicated to strengthening our capabilities through our Future Talent programs, which include Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Graduate and Internship opportunities. We're committed to continually upskilling our teams to ensure they’re prepared for Australia's energy transition.
